Belt Effectiveness in Rollovers
In
these projects we continue and build upon previous research studying
various production three-point restraint systems and resulting vertical
excursion on restrained inverted occupants. Vertical excursions
are evaluated for various sized occupants restrained by both production
vehicle belt systems as well as systems incorporating alternative
designs. We have shown vertical excursions to be reduced by an average
of 77% by optimizing belt geometry and adding belt pre-tensioning.
